A private residence in North Dakota’s Mandan witnessed a night straight out of a horror movie. According to the investigators, a young mother murdered two of her children. Kailey Erhart of North Dakota was taken into custody Thursday evening after she attacked her three young children. According to court documents, officers found her standing inside her home. At the time, she was covered in blood and had a kitchen knife pressed to her own throat.
The documents further clarify that the police followed a trail of blood to a nearby bedroom, where they found Erhart’s three children lying unresponsive on the floor. The children were discovered with severe neck wounds. Her two daughters, five-month-old Ava and three-year-old Morgan, were killed in the stabbing. Meanwhile, her one-year-old son, Colton, survived after undergoing extensive surgery for serious injuries.
According to the affidavit, before the killing, Erhart, 22, allegedly threatened her estranged husband, Cameron, while carrying one of the children with a pistol strapped to her hip. He received the chilling video where Erhart warned him to “say goodbye to your kids.”

Investigators report that the attack escalated after Erhart wielded a firearm at Cameron and chased both him and the children’s grandmother out of the house with a knife. Erhart now faces nine criminal counts, including two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and multiple charges of aggravated assault and terrorizing. She has not yet entered a plea.
The tragic violence has left the community stunned, as she was known as a loving mother. Even her social media presence was almost exclusively dedicated to celebrating her children and sharing milestones of family life.
“We’ve been keeping a little secret! Ava Blake Erhart born last night at 9:37 pm! 6.7 pounds, 19.5 inches,” one of her latest posts on Facebook read.
“Morgan’s first haircut! On the way home she kept saying she wants her hair back hopefully her hair won’t be in her eyes as much,” read another post from last year.
“Happy birthday to my sassy 2 year old ! I love you so much Morgan and I love watching you being the best big sister you can possibly be,” she wrote in a separate post.
“I wish papa could have been here to meet Morgan and Colton, but I know he’s watching from above and sending his love down,” another post read.
Kailey’s mother-in-law, Melissa, has set up a GoFundMe to raise money for Colton’s treatment and other emergency expenses.
“I lost two precious souls in a devastating tragedy after they were murdered by their mother, and the pain is more than I can put into words. Every day, we are carrying unimaginable grief while also trying to stay strong for his surviving child, who is receiving ongoing medical care and facing challenges no child should ever have to endure,” a note attached to the fundraiser read.
