Are You Affected By The Nokia Lumia 2520’s Faulty Charger Issue?

Nokia has issued a product advisory for its Lumia 2520 Windows 8.1 RT powered tablet. The Nokia 2520 tablet ships with a charger that goes by the model name AC-300. Nokia has discovered a manufacturing defect with this charger due to which the company has issued an urgent product advisory, requesting users to stop using the tablet for the time being.

According to Nokia, the plastic cover of the charger’s exchangeable plug could come loose and separate. If this happens, Nokia believes a few internal components may cause an electric shock to the user if he/she touches the charger while in use. “While there have been no confirmed consumer incidents related to this potential quality issue, product quality and safety are top priorities at Nokia,” said Jo Harlow, EVP Smart Devices. “We apologize to the owners of the Lumia 2520, and we are working with urgency to minimize the inconvenience.”

Nokia adds that while there have been no issues of a mishap reported due to this defect, they have decided to go ahead with the product advisory anyway. According to Nokia, over 30,000 AC-300 chargers are affected by this quality issue. Only Lumia 2520 tablets sold in the following markets are affected by the problem; Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Russia, Switzerland, UK and the US. For the US, Nokia has issued an additional warning about 600 travel charger accessories it has sold in the market.

Apart from advising users to stop using the Lumia 2520 with the AC-300 charger, the company has also went ahead halted the sales of the device in the affected markets. While the press release announcing this development only states that Nokia is “delaying” the sales of the Lumia 2520 tablet, it more or less looks like a complete sales ban until Nokia fixes this issue.

The Nokia AC 300 is a model that is exclusively supplied with the Nokia Lumia 2520 tablet. Therefore it is safe to assume that other chargers that Nokia supplies with its devices are safe to use.

Nokia will update Lumia 2520 users with further information in the days to come. The company has not yet issued a product recall. Are you an affected Nokia Lumia 2520 user? You might want to use this link to sign up for alerts pertaining to this particular issue.
