Nintendo Wii gets itself a new controller

The image above first appeared on the site of games retailer GameSpot, and shows the boxart for upcoming Wii title FlingSmash . Nothing unusual about that, but here’s something: it appears to show a new variation on the standard Wii controller .

Dubbed “Wii Remote Plus”, this new controller supposedly includes on-board Wii MotionPlus technology. If you recall, Nintendo released Wii MotionPlus last year . Delivering more precise motion control, it was originally sold as a separate dongle that attached to a standard Wii Remote.

What this new controller seems to do is integrate Wii MotionPlus into the pad, eliminating the need for an expensive add-on. It’s about time, really, so well done Nintendo.

Nintendo itself is publishing FlingSmash , which just got delayed until November. When it does appear, you’ll be able to pick up the game and your very own Wii Remote Plus for a penny under fifty bucks. Nintendo has yet to officially confirm the existence of a new Wii wand, but the evidence seems pretty overwhelming here.
