Nicole Kidman isn’t a stranger to transforming herself for her roles, and a role portraying Grace Kelly might see the actress do just that if talks go through.
Grace of Monaco was initially a first draft script being passed around Hollywood by writer Arash Amel when producer Pierre-Ange Le Pogam snatched it up for his newly launched Stone Angel production. Sources say that Le Pogam beat out many bidders to pick up the script.
The indie film is shaping up quite nicely so far, with Oliver Dahan heading up the project as its director. This is a terrific move for production, as Dahan also took the reigns on the critically acclaimed biopic on Edith Piaf’s life La Vie en Rose , which saw its star Marion Cotillard win her first Oscar for Best Actress in 2008.
Kidman is said to be positioning herself for the lead of Kelly in what is being described as a $15 million film in the same vein as The King’s Speech , which won an Oscar for Best Film in 2011.
What’s originally about the Grace Kelly film is that it’s not a biopic, but a slice of life. Much like this year’s critically acclaimed My Week With Marilyn, a source says that Grace of Monaco will focus “a six month period in 1962 when the city-state got into a heated dispute with France, which grew tired of the petite principality being a tax haven. Kelly, still relatively new in her role as princess, maneuvered behind the scenes to save Monaco from a coup.”
