NFL rumors have been swirling around Robert Griffin III from the moment that Kirk Cousins captured the starting quarterback position for the Washington Redskins. Many wanted to see which National Football League team is going to give the former Baylor Bears star a chance to resurrect his career. According to SB Nation, the San Francisco 49ers might be the team that enables Griffin III to prove that he still belongs in the NFL.
After a couple of years dominating the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers are a team that’s trying to fix problems and get things back to normal. They lost Jim Harbaugh to the Michigan Wolverines because he and Niners general manager Trent Baalke could not get along. Several Niners players – including Justin Smith, Anthony Davis, Chris Borland, and Patrick Willis – also decided to prematurely retire from the National Football League.
Blaine Gabbert isn’t the long-term solution for the San Francisco 49ers. He was always viewed as the stopgap solution while the Niners try to find their quarterback of the future. Gabbert isn’t a bad player by any means. However, if San Francisco wants to make it back to the Super Bowl, then they’re going to need to find a quarterback that can produce more wins than what Blaine is capable of doing.
Jim Tomsula ran a pretty basic offense when he was the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. Chip Kelly is a lot more dynamic of an offensive mind. His system has been known to make quarterbacks appear much better than they really are. That sounds like a very favorable situation for Robert Griffin III, who needs to repair his name value. Kelly would fully utilize the passing and running skills of Griffin III, so he might become one of the top NFL stars again.
One thing that’s for sure is that Robert Griffin III will receive another chance in the NFL. He and his agent will look around to see what the best fit is going to be. Griffin III is not opposed to being a backup quarterback, but he would much rather start if that opportunity was there. The San Francisco 49ers can provide him with that opportunity.
