Joystiq managed to catch up with Valve’s Gabe Newell after a Valve keynote, held earlier this morning, and asked what Valve had to say about Nintendo’s next console. And, would you know it, Newell had plenty of good things to say.
“ Wii U seems to be a lot more powerful than the previous generation,” Newell said. “It sort of fits better into the scalability in terms of graphics performance and CPU performance, so I think it’ll be a lot easier for us to fit it into our scalability model.”
As Newell pointed out later in the interview, Valve has been slowly making a push towards consoles, starting with Xbox 360 and, more recently, the PlayStation 3.
Newell’s opinion of the PlayStation 3 wasn’t always bright and sunny , however. Back in 2007, Newell publicly blasted the PlayStation 3, calling it a “total disaster on so many levels.” His opinion has since changed pretty dramatically, with Portal 2 making it over to the PlayStation 3 with the added (and exclusive, at least on consoles) benefit of the Steam cloud services.
If there’s any developer high atop my personal Wii U-developer wish list, it would have to be Valve. Mark me down as interested, Newell.
