New Apple iOS 8 Bug Affects Bluetooth Connectivity

Just as the news that Apple had to pull the latest update to iOS 8 started to fade from the public eye, news of another bug in the programming has surfaced and it’s leaving a lot of iPhone users scratching their heads.

According to forums on MacRumors , users are reporting that their iOS 8 devices are no longer pairing with their Bluetooth car audio systems. The forums indicate that the issues are plaguing users of both iOS 8 and iOS 8.0.2 devices and in a number of different vehicles including Hyundai, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Toyota and Ford. Apple has acknowledged the bug with vehicle connections but it appears that other users are having difficulties connecting to Bluetooth headphones, speakers, and other devices.

At the moment, there appears to be no official fix, nor any guaranteed method to restore Bluetooth functionality, but some users have reported temporary success by logging out of iCloud, forgetting connected Bluetooth devices, using the “Reset All Settings” and/or “Reset Network Settings” option on their iPhones and restarting, re-pairing their phones with their Bluetooth devices, then logging back into iCloud.

This comes just after Apple pulled the update for iOS 8.0.1 due to users complaining about dropped calls, a complete disconnect of cellular service, and a loss of functionality of the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. Not helping their cause was the fact that the update required 5.8GB of free space for installation, which denied installation on many users’ phones that have smaller storage sizes. Additionally, Crittercism released a report claiming that iOS 8 has a crash rate 78% higher than the previous version of the operating system.

Apple has had a recent history of fumbles ever since they launched their newest versions of the iPhone, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. No sooner than the announcement was made did users lament on the lack of innovation in the new devices, despite Apple touting them as revolutionary devices. Perhaps the most vocal of all was Apple’s biggest competitor, Samsung, who released several TV spots comparing Apple’s newest devices to Samsung’s Galaxy line of phones, which have been out and doing for years what the iPhone 6 is only just getting around to.

Shortly after, users began to see that the iPhone’s larger and thinner structure make the device prone to bending while in front and rear pants pockets, prompting Twitter hashtags like #Bendgate and #Bendghazi . What’s worse is that if the screen didn’t immediately shatter after bending, it was certain to when it was bent back.

Additionally, Apple provoked the ire of millions of iOS users by automatically adding U2’s newest album to every user’s iCloud without permission, then advertising it on television as if users were supposed to be grateful for such a horrendous breach of trust.

Perhaps Apple will make up for their recent transgressions someday, however it looks like the foreseeable future is going to be looking at Apple the same way Apple looked at Microsoft in the 90’s; a dystopian corporation that thinks it’s too big to fail.
