NBC has reportedly hired David Axelrod as a senior political analyst.
In addition to his work on NBC, Axelrod will also contribute to MSNBC. Prior to signing up with the network, Axelrod was the chief political strategist and senior adviser for President Barack Obama.
According to Yahoo! News , this isn’t David’s first time working for a major news organization. Axelrod worked for the Chicago Tribune in 1984. He reportedly spent eight years at the paper as a political writer. He also served as the City Hall bureau chief and a columnist.
NBC and MSNBC already employ a number of political analysts. In addition to David Axelrod , the network counts Steve Schmidt, Michael Steele, and former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell among the ranks. However, Axelrod will be the only person from this group to contribute to NBC’s regular broadcasts.
Axelrod will have plenty to keep his hands busy this year. The New York Times reports that the former political strategist was also named political director at the Institute of Politics as the University of Chicago. What’s more, Axelrod was also made a Distinguished Fellow at the Harris School of Public Policy.
The Inquisitr reported last year that David Axelrod shaved off his famous mustache on the MSNBC program Morning Joe with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. Although he was originally supposed to shave off his mustache during a bet with Scarborough, Axelrod was ultimately spared when Obama clinched Minnesota, Michigan, and Pennsylvania in November.
However, Axelrod decided to shave the mustache for his wife’s organization Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy. The latest addition to the NBC family told Today that he was very anxious about letting it go.
He explained:
“I’ve been staring at it for 40 years, Savannah. I’m very attached to it,” Axelrod told Today host Savannah Guthrie. “I was up all night, to be honest with you. It’s a little unsettling, but like I said, people have lost a lot more than a mustache.”
