NBA rumors have been swirling around Darren Collison. The New York Knicks have a lot of needs heading into next year. The team will be looking for a new starting point guard next season. According to FanSided, New York might be trying to trade for the Sacramento Kings point guard this summer. Collison has been solid for the Kings off the bench this past year. It will be interesting to see if the Knicks have enough assets to make this trade happen.
The New York Knicks trading for Darren Collison would give them a starter for a very cheap price. He may not be a star player, but he makes up for it with his play on the court. The former UCLA Bruins star has a combination of speed and quickness. He sees the floor well as a facilitator, is a quality shooter from beyond the arc, and is a good defender. Collison spent a majority of the year coming off the bench. This season, he averaged 14 points, 4.3 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per game. Darren played 30 minutes. He basically played starter minutes.
Earlier this season, the New York Knicks signed point guard Tony Wroten to a contract. He hasn’t played a single game for the Knicks since he was signed. Wroten is coming off a torn ACL injury last season. He was released by the Philadelphia 76ers earlier in the season. Before his injury, he was averaging 16.9 points, 5.2 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game. He was primed to have a breakout year. New York will be hoping that he can get back to that level of play next season.
The New York Knicks have some key pieces on the team. Last summer, the Knicks signed Robin Lopez to a four-year deal. They got a good rim defender and a guy who is willing to get physical in the paint. New York drafted Kristaps Porzingis with the fourth overall pick in the NBA Draft. The young power forward has shown flashes of his potential. He gives Knick fan great hope for the future. Carmelo Anthony will be leading the way for New York.
It will be interesting on what kind of package Phil Jackson can come up with to trade for Darren Collison. The New York Knicks acquiring Collison would be a big win because of his contract. That would give the team some more wiggle room to sign a star player.
