NBA Rumors: Kevin Durant Could Land With Warriors In Free Agency

Kevin Durant is one of the greatest basketball players in the world. The Golden State Warriors are the best team in the NBA. Could you imagine if the two joined forces? According to a report from Yahoo! Sports, it’s actually a distinct possibility. Durant is set to become a free agent this summer, and sources are saying that the Warriors have become a “significant frontrunner” to sign the 27-year-old. That’s scary. What’s even scarier is the fact that the Warriors would still retain Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green in this scenario.

Adding Kevin Durant to a team that’s threatening the Chicago Bulls’ 72-win record would establish a dynastic element to a young nucleus already with one championship under their belts. On Monday, the Inquisitr reported that Durant could bolt for Los Angeles and sign with the Lakers, with the idea that current teammate Russell Westbrook would follow him one year later when he hits the open market. However, winning appears to trump everything for Durant, and signing with the Warriors would certainly give him the best chance of doing just that. It doesn’t mean KD has written off Oklahoma City yet, but the idea that the Warriors have an inside track is fascinating.

Like Kevin Durant, the Pacific Division-leading Warriors are focused on collecting W’s and rings. Draymond Green is sensing that his squad and his city are becoming very attractive to potential free agents.

“We’re all about winning. One thing guys on this team don’t care about is who is getting the shots, or who is scoring. Guys definitely want to play here, play with us. We’re smiling. We’re having fun. You can tell that. I definitely think it’s become one of those places where guys will want to play.”

Kevin Durant has been to the NBA Finals once in his nine-year NBA career. Many expected he and the Thunder to return multiple times, but it hasn’t happened since falling to the Heat in five games in 2012. OKC are contenders again this year, but they’ll likely have to run through Golden State and San Antonio to represent the Western Conference in the finals. According to the report, the top contenders to lure Durant away from Oklahoma City this summer (aside from Golden State) are the Washington Wizards, Miami Heat, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Clippers. The Wizards would represent Durant returning to his hometown, while the Clippers would likely need to move Blake Griffin in order to facilitate Durant’s arrival.

Kevin Durant has kept his circle tight, looking for the well-balanced and drama-free to surround himself with. Warriors owner Joe Lacob told Yahoo! Sports this regarding the attraction surrounding his franchise.

“We obviously have a very appealing and attractive team and organization. We have a team – and a team concept. We’re proud of that. Proud of the way the coaching staff coaches that way, the players play that way. And our leader, Steph, epitomizes that. I do think that they all just want to win. That’s our mantra for the whole organization. I think anybody could feel comfortable coming onto this team.”

Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson all on the same team? It might be hard to fathom, but we may get a glimpse of it in Toronto during the NBA’s All-Star Weekend in less than two weeks. All four are representing the West, as well as Russell Westbrook. And technically, the coach of the team with the best record in each conference is usually slated to coach the All-Star team. But since Luke Walton was the interim head coach for the Warriors for the majority of the first half, Greg Popovich will do the honors for the West. If the Warriors are indeed a “significant frontrunner” to sign Durant, it could be a very interesting summer.
