National Grouch Day 2013 is being celebrated by the grumpy among us. Perhaps even the grumpy cat might smile for this holiday?
As previously previously reported by The Inquisitr , Columbus Day 2013 was preceded with the news that a Chinese explorer might beaten Columbus to America by hundreds of years.
Someone being beaten? That should make grumpy cat smile… or not. What might make grumpy hiss is the thought of International Day of Happiness, which is about as anti-curmudgeon as you can be.
Apparently, some people feel the grumps need their own holiday because the kids show Sesame Street is celebrating National Grouch Day:
“A Grouch’s mission in life is to be as miserable and grouchy as possible, and pass that feeling on to everyone else. Only then will a Grouch feel in touch with his or her world and be happy. Yet, even though a Grouch may show happiness at anyone’s misfortune (including his or her own), a Grouch would never admit to being happy. Such is the stability of a Grouch’s life: so balanced, and yet so unbalanced.”
Interestingly enough, research agrees with the National Grouch Day statement. Research has found that older adults who are pessimistic tend to live longer and are less likely to have disabilities. And who could argue that Oscar, the crotchety muppet who lives in a trash can, hasn’t lived a long life?
Still, National Grouch Day 2013 will probably become the equivalent of Halloween, with little kids saying, “Grumpy cat is scaring me, make her stop!”
