The Monkees announced tour dates for this summer, and fans of the 1960s pop group could have something more — a new album.
The band announced this week that its three surviving members —Michael Nesmith, Micky Dolenz, and Peter Tork — will reunite for a cross-country tour starting in mid-July . The show will give fans a multimedia look through the band’s history, including old footage and photos to go along with performances of hits like “I’m a Believer.”
It will be the Monkees second tour since the passing of Davy Jones in February 2012. Not long after his death, the remaining Monkees announced tour dates for November and December that year, and the success of those shows has propelled the band to another slate of shows this summer.
“This time we probably won’t lean so heavily on the David situation,” said Dolenz. “I think we have to move on. Everybody has to move on. He’ll always be remembered and acknowledged, but possibly not as much as on that particular tour. We will, of course, still perform ‘Daydream Believer’ and all the other hits.”
It’s not just a tour that the Monkees announce. Dolenz put out a statement swaying the band members are considering recording another album.
The tour could expand beyond the planned dates in America, Dolenz added.
“I can be frank and tell you we are thinking about taking it everywhere,” he says. “There’s always been interest in Japan, Eurasia and Australia and New Zealand. There’s a huge fan base in South America and Brazil in specific, which we’ve never really tapped into. There’s also talk about Europe and the U.K.”
On the band’s website , the Monkees announce all tour dates, which stretch from July to mid-August.
