R&B singer Miguel was arrested for DUI in Los Angeles Thursday morning.
California Highway Patrol officers flagged the 27-year-old Adorn singer’s 2013 BMW X6 for speeding and tinted windows around 2:15 am, according to TMZ.
Officers then noticed that Miguel — full name name Miguel Jontel Pimentel — smelled of booze. He performed several field sobriety tests, but failed them all. He also took a Breathalyzer test and blew a.10 and.11. The legal blood alcohol limit in California is.08.
Miguel was arrested for DUI and booked at a nearby police station. He was released a few hours later on $5,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court next month.
Miguel’s DUI arrest isn’t his only legal trouble this year. At the Billboard Music Awards on May 19, the 5’7″ crooner tried to leap across the stage, but instead landed on two female fans. One of the women, Khyati Shah, went backstage with Miguel afterward, and called her his “new friend.”
Less than two weeks later, Shah’s attorney, Vip Bhola, said she was considering a lawsuit pending medical results. Bhola said Shah had been having “difficulties” following the accident. Bhola later elaborated on the “difficulties,” and said said that they were “cognitive in nature and lead to suspicion of a neurological head injury.”
Bhola explained that Shah did not receive proper medial attention after the accident, and that she should have been rushed to the hospital. Instead, she was given an ice pack — which she was seen holding to her arm, and not her head. However, despite Shah’s injuries, a lawsuit isn’t necessarily guaranteed.
“The doctors really are in the driver’s seat in this situation, not the lawyers,” he said. “Once we have that information, we’ll be able to make legal evaluations.”
Bhola also said Miguel has not offered to pay for his client’s medical bill or any other expenses.
