Michael Reed Reunion: 60 Years Later, Son Reunited With Biological Father

Finally, after being an orphan for nearly 20 years, Michael Reed got the reunion he wanted, albeit 60 years later. Five months ago, the 60-year-old reunited with his father, Dennis Fay, 80, after learning he was adopted. It was a long time coming, but Reed and his dad started making up for lost time straight away, citing a People news report.
Surrounded by his family, Fay waited anxiously to see his son for the first time in six decades. They had cameras to capture the moment Reed stepped off the plane into the concourse at the Salt Lake City International Airport. They also had a banner that read, “It’s a boy.” It was nothing short of a hero’s welcome, something Fay knows a lot about.

Sixty years ago, Reed’s father returned from the Korean War with other soldiers after 13 months in combat. Like many, they couldn’t wait to celebrate stateside. The young Marine was stationed at a military base in Southern California. And by his own admission, he “ran around” quite a bit with the ladies. He and his pals spent time frequenting drive-ins in the area. At one of them, he met Michael Reed’s future mother.
“She happened to be one of the carhops. If you dated a carhop back in those days, you were pretty macho because they had their pick of men, and I dated her.”
Fay said Reed’s mom left her job and moved away some time later. He then moved away, married, and went on to have nine children of his own. Little did he know, there was another son he knew nothing about. Reed was born, but he wouldn’t find out for 10 years that he was an adopted child. With a little luck, thanks to today’s technology — and a lot of luck — Reed got the miracle he spent decades praying for.
Another heartwarming reunion story, similar to Michael Reed’s 60-year tale, was reported by Inquisitr recently. Last month, Robin Barton, who was born premature and left in a dumpster by his mom, was reunited with the police officer who saved his life. Twenty-five years later, the pair reunited for the first time. And as a bonus, another miracle happened: the young man connected with his biological father for the first time, as well.
Michael Reed’s reunion with his father was 60 years overdue. But the first words he spoke to Fay was priceless.
“Hi, dad.”
