Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly may look polished and self-confident on air, but when it comes to social protocol, it seems she has the occasional awkward moment just like the rest of us.

According to Fox News, Kelly, who was invited to the White House Christmas party for the first time this year, was a bit unclear on the particulars of meeting President Barack Obama and the first lady, Michelle Obama.

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Wednesday, the two talked about her first visit to the Christmas party, and joked about her being part of the conservative media at a White House event.

Kimmel asked her if there was a special section for Fox News with “no food and dirty forks.”

“You mean there was something other than outside in the rain?” Kelly said.

She then went on to reveal her awkward moment when meeting the First Family.

“I had 30 seconds to get in and get out without embarrassing myself,” she said, “and I blew it.”

Kelly explains that while standing in line to meet the Obamas, she was talking to media executive Tammy Haddad, who told her that Obama usually kissed her, and that Michelle may kiss her husband, Doug – so she should be prepared for that.

She wasn’t expecting that, so she worried about what to do if the president did kiss her.

“I was thinking should I go to her first? Should I kiss her too,” Kelly said.

It turned out she didn’t have to worry about an awkward kiss.

“I was misled in that regard,” she said laughing.

However, when she and her husband met the Obamas, Kelly said they were very gracious.

When President Obama asked her if she thought the White House was a “pretty fun place,” though, she answered him with a little joke that she immediately realized could have easily been taken the wrong way.

And that, she says, is when things got a bit awkward.

Kelly told Kimmel that, by his expression, she was pretty sure Obama was thinking “Is this a shot at me at my Christmas party?”

“President Obama, I apologize,” she said at the end of the segment. “I didn’t mean it that way.”

You can see Kelly’s awkward joke and her description of President Obama’s reaction to it in this clip from Wednesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live.

This isn’t Kelly’s first awkward slip of the tongue. The Inquisitr shared a Fox News video of Megyn accidentally dropping the F-bomb on-air while introducing former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.
