Marianne Faithfull claims to know who is responsible for Jim Morrison’s death. On July 3, 1971, James Douglas Morrison was found dead in a rented apartment in Paris, France. Although no autopsy was performed, and the official cause of death is listed as a heart attack, it is assumed that Morrison died of a heroin overdose.

Faithfull claims her former boyfriend, Jean de Breteuil, sold Morrison the drugs that ended his life. In the Mojo magazine interview, Faithfull said de Breiteuil went to Morrison’s apartment on the night of his death. However, she decided to stay home:

“I could intuitively feel trouble. I thought, I’ll take a few Tuinal and I won’t be there. And he went to see Jim Morrison and killed him… I mean I’m sure it was an accident… The smack was too strong? Yeah. And he died.”

Marianne Faithfull’s theory is certainly plausible. However, it is one of many theories about how and where the Doors frontman died.

In 2007, New York Times journalist Sam Bernett also suggested Jean de Breteuil was involved in Morrison’s death. Interestingly, Bernett also suggests Faithfull was with de Breteuil on the evening in question.

As reported by The Huffington Post , Bernett claims Jim Morrison died in a Paris night club restroom . According to Bennett, de Breteuil did in fact provide Morrison with the drugs. When de Breteuil realized Morrison was dead, he reportedly ordered his associates to move his body to the apartment.

Bernett further claims that Jean de Breteuil and Marianne Faithfull then left the club — together — and traveled to Morocco.

The unanswered questions have led to numerous rumors — including the possibility that Morrison actually faked his death . As Jim Morrison was only 27 years old at the time of his death, and no autopsy was performed, the specific circumstances will likely remain a mystery.

As reported by CNN , Faithfull was also outspoken about Amy Winehouse — who also died from an overdose at the age of 27:

“Amy was very, very wary of me… She knew that I knew and she didn’t want me to say anything. There’s a level of narcissism which is all mixed up with self-hatred. I know it well… But I can’t think what I could have done apart from take her and shake her!”

During her interview, Marianne Faithfull also announced the September release of her new album Give My Love to London . She is also working on a book, titled Marianne Faithfull: A Life on Record .
