Many people enjoy a little tipple at Christmas time, not to mention New Year’s Eve, but a man in Australia took the whole drinking thing just a tad too far, when he stole 151 bottles of strong booze from a Darwin restaurant.

The culprit, 44-year-old Warren Argall, and another man reportedly broke into the Char restaurant cool room, got drunk and then filled a large refuse wheelie with bottles and cans of stolen alcohol.

But when Argall awoke the next morning, having been passed out in the footpath adjacent to the restaurant, surrounded by bottles of booze, he told police that he had no recollection of what had happened the night before.

As reported by 9News , the total amount of alcohol stolen topped an estimated $7,500, and when Argall appeared before the Darwin Magistrates Court, he pleaded guilty to all charges against him.

It’s just as well, as clear CCTV footage shows Argall and another man entered the property at about 11:00pm on December 29 through an unlocked rear gate and forced the door on the cool room. The men can then be seen drinking the stolen booze on the restaurant’s step.

The court heard that Argall and the other man returned several times to pick up more booze from the restaurant, and the men allegedly entered the premises no fewer than eight times, between 11:00pm to 7:05 a.m., to stock up on alcohol.

On Wednesday, Duty Superintendent Louise Jorgensen said the hunt for the others involved in the robbery was ongoing. “It is expected the restaurant will be upgrading its security,” she said.

Meanwhile, in Alice Springs, Territory Duty Superintendent Helen Braam, said about the incident, “I know the Northern Territory talks about mango madness and the silly season… in terms of assaults and domestics we do seem to have an increase, but I have no evidence to support it is due to the change of season,” she said.
