A man sliced off his own tongue to win back his verbally abused wife. Bunty Verma, a 32-year-old television repairman from Sendhwa, India apparently decided it was necessary to remove his sharp tongue to reconcile with his estranged wife.
Verma was reportedly so distraught that his wife left him and took their daughter with her that he tried to slice off his tongue, according to the Huffington Post . The Indian man attempted to reach out to his wife in a note to explain that, since his quick tongue was responsible for his cruel statements to her, he opted to simply slice it off, the Hindustan Times reports.
Hema, the man’s wife, allegedly left him because she could no longer tolerate his verbal abuse any longer. She reportedly left the home with the child on the eve of Raksha Bandhan and planned to never return. In the letter to his estranged wife, Verma noted that cutting off his tongue was done as an act of repentance.
It is unknown if Verma’s wife was emotionally moved enough by the painful declaration of love that it convinced her to return home. Bunty was reportedly admitted to a government hospital for treatment. Doctor J.P. Pandit allegedly reported the television repairman’s self-mutilation to local law enforcement officers.
Bunty’s friends claim that he and Hema had a “love marriage” and that his first wife had also left him several years prior. The man’s two pals also maintain that Verma had been telling everyone he planned to remove his “bad tongue” for several days before the drastic act took place. The distraught husband also allegedly wanted a live demonstration in front of the media for the sake of his repentance.
