Following an alleged domestic dispute, a South Carolina man may have difficulty getting a passing grade — if there is such a thing — in a court-ordered anger management class.
The man allegedly hit his ex-girlfriend on the right side of her face just after he had left the anger management session on Wednesday evening. She allegedly responded to the assault by hitting him in the face, cutting his lip.
The man got into a heated discussion with the woman in her car when she picked him up after class, and that’s when the situation got physical. According to the Spartanburg, S.C. police report, the blow to the female victim’s face caused bruising and swelling.
The man, identified in multiple media accounts as Johnny Wilkins, 42, apparently is required to attend anger management classes as a result of a prior domestic abuse conviction. Wilkins was also previously busted for domestic violence involving the same woman according to what he told cops. Apparently the couple also got into a dispute earlier on Wednesday, and at that time officers told them to stay away from each other.
After evaluating the evidence and speaking with both parties, responding officers charged Wilkins with criminal domestic violence, and he was booked into the county jail on a $5237 bond. The woman was not arrested in the incident which reportedly occurred outside a Hardee’s restaurant.
Wilkins is due back in court on June 19.
Earlier this month in Spartanburg, a man was arrested after he allegedly smacked his girlfriend with the workbook from his anger management class. She then allegedly slashed him with a box cutter. Sheriff’s deputies charged both with criminal domestic violence.
Do you think that anger management classes are effective?
