Maksim Chmerkovskiy and his younger brother Val are getting ready to hit the road. The longtime Dancing With the Stars pro dancers will team up for their own dance tour called Maks & Val Live On Tour: Our Way . In an interview with Life& Style , the Chmerkovskiy brothers said they hope to inspire fans with their story about family and “two brothers who never really fit in.” Maksim and Valentin Chmerkovskiy were born in Odessa, Ukraine and immigrated to Brooklyn in 1994.
In the interview, Valentin Chmerkovskiy said the 45-city tour will not only make their fans happy, but it will make their own family happy, too.
We’re very excited. First of all we are making our grandma really happy. We’re finally working together. It’s going to be the best dance show out there…It’s our own passion project and everything we dreamed of.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy added that the production will be a joint effort between him and his brother—no younger brother, older mentor thing. Maksim also confirmed that he won’t be doing the 22nd season of Dancing With the Stars this season, but his brother will, so Val’s DWTS schedule will determine when rehearsals for Our Way begin.
Val’s doing DWTS so I will be actually putting all of the stuff together. Obviously I do a lot of multi-tasking for everybody, but as soon as he’s done with the show, with the upcoming season, that’s when we begin rehearsal.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy also revealed that the show won’t feature any of their DWTS co-stars, because they don’t want to make it about Dancing With the Stars . Instead, there will be cameos from other friends of theirs from the dance world.
In a statement posted to the official website for Maks & Val Live On Tour: Our Way , Maksim said the upcoming tour will fulfill a childhood dream for both him and his brother.
Val and I have pushed each other to be better dancers every day since we were kids, and this show will fulfill a lifetime dream to perform on the same stage together across the country. We want to connect with our audience and take the performance to a whole new level. There will be no holding back on this tour.
Maksim’s brother added that the autobiographical summertime production will show fans a side they’ve never seen of the Chmerkovskiys. Fans will come away from the show knowing much more about the DWTS alums.
The essence of this show will be the story of two brothers and the passion we have for life, family, opportunity and, of course, dance. It will be the most honest we’ve ever been to an audience. We want to entertain with incredible choreography and inspire while sharing our story, our way.
Maksim Chmerkovskiy was a professional dancer on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars for 14 seasons. He ended his long run on the celebrity ballroom competition after he won a mirrorball trophy with Olympic ice dancer, Meryl Davis, in 2014. Maksim also recently announced his engagement to fellow DWTS pro Peta Murgatroyd. Valentin Chmerkovskiy has been part of the DWTS cast since Season 13. He won a mirrorball trophy in Season 20 with partner Rumer Willis in 2015.
For Maks & Val Live On Tour: Our Way , the Chmerkovskiy brothers will perform in 45 cities across the United States. The tour will begin June 15 in Melbourne, Florida, and will wrap August 14 in San Jose, in California. To purchase tickets, go to MaksandValTour.com .
