Here's How Madonna Seemingly Re-Ignited a 30-Year Feud with Cher, Doubles Down on 'Mean Disses'
Cher and Madonna are known as the music industry's biggest pioneers for their magnanimous achievements, from paving the way for generations of singers through their respective genres of singing to having successful business empires. These women have indefinitely become geniuses in the field. Both the divas are known for their bold and confident demeanor while performing in front of a sea of fans. While the general public loves both of them with equal respect, it appears that they don’t particularly feel the same way about each other, especially not since certain recent events transpired.
According to US Daily, a feud that had been dormant for nearly 30 years has seemingly come to the fore once more. After a fan of the two recorded Cher being 'mean' to Madonna in an interlude on the latter's Celebration Tour in London and posted it on TikTok on the 15th of October, other people couldn't help but wonder about it was all about.
The video clip featured Madonna’s biggest supporters in the industry, such as Ariana Grande, praising their alleged mentor. Numerous people said amazing things about Madonna for the wonderful person she is and the savage personality she has—and then there was Cher’s interview from 1991 that didn’t exactly hit the brief.
Cher confesses in the interview that although she held Madonna in the highest of regards, she didn't appreciate it when the Like A Virgin singer behaved 'mean' at times. Cher said, “I remember having her over at my house a couple of times because Sean Penn and I were friends, and she was just so rude to everybody.” But the brutal honesty didn’t stop there, nor did she hold back on roasting Madonna at the time. “She acts like a spoiled brat all the time,” said a disgruntled Cher.
This isn’t the first time Cher has publicly spoken out on her dislike for the Material Girl singer. In yet another interview in 1991, she referred to the sour ties between them. On the Wogan show, Cher claimed, “It’s really gotten blown out of proportion,” and went on to express her thoughts concerning Madonna.
Cher recalled several people reaching out to her about the same and, like so, remembered her response. Now, although Cher claimed to find Madonna to be 'unbelievably talented,' what she said after was definitely like a plot twist no one saw coming. “She’s not beautiful, but she’s kind of rude,” noted Cher.
Regardless of the vague and cryptic statement, in the end, it seems that there are some parts of Madonna that Cher genuinely claims to admire. Important attributes such as fearlessly and wholeheartedly pursuing her passion, working both smarter and harder, and lastly, being 'willing to do whatever she wants to do' are things Cher seems to find truly commendable. Neither Cher nor Madonna nor their representatives have spoken out since recent events. Whether or not this is going to spark the feud from years ago still remains to be seen.
