Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s son Maddox Jolie-Pitt has reportedly filed to legally drop “Pitt” from his surname. If the request is granted, the son of the former Hollywood couple will be officially known as Maddox Chivan Jolie in the future. Amid his parents’ post-divorce legal battles, the 24-year-old is the fourth of their six children to drop the surname “Pitt.”
According to US Weekly, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s son Maddox requested to drop his father’s name as per the legal documents acquired by the publication. It is worth mentioning that the move comes months after Maddox removed Pitt from his name in the credits of Couture, the movie headlined by Angelina Jolie, where he served as an assistant director. Following this, he was listed as Maddox Jolie in the project’s credits.

While all the Starkids earlier used their father’s name as well, some of them denounced it following their parents’ separation. When Zahara joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority in November 2023, she noticeably used Zahara Marley Jolie. The month before, Vivienne was listed as Vivienne Jolie in the Playbill for her work on The Outsiders.
Meanwhile, Shiloh further distanced herself from Brad Pitt by legally requesting the removal of Pitt from her surname on her 18th birthday. The name change was officially approved in 2024. An insider, while speaking with the publication at the time, had revealed that Shiloh hired her own attorney and covered the legal cost on her own.
The source added that Angelina couldn’t speak for the legal proceedings, while a second source stated that Pitt was “devastated” by the move. Referencing Shiloh’s name change, the source stated, “To him, it was more than a change of name — it was a symbol of a deeper estrangement that has been brewing for years.”
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt first worked together in 2005, in the film Mr. & Mrs. Smith, when the actress admitted to falling in love with her co-star. However, she denied allegations of an affair, but a year later, in January 2006, Jolie announced that they were expecting their first child together.

During a long 12-year relationship, the high-profile couple was lovingly known as “Brangelina.” They welcomed six kids: Maddox, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, Pax, 22, and twins Vivienne and Knox, both 17, out of which Maddox, Pax, and Zahara were adopted.
They officially announced their engagement in April 2012 and were legally married in August 2014. However, much to fans’ shock, they got separated in September 2016 and declared legally single in April 2019. Things turned from bad to worse after they were embroiled in messy legal battles in the years following their split.
The Wanted actress alleged that Pitt was “physically and emotionally abusive” toward her and their kids during a September 2016 flight from California to France, claims which Pitt denied. Furthermore, the 62-year-old also took legal action against the actress in February 2022, alleging she illegally sold her stake in the French winery Château Miraval without his consent.
The former couple eventually finalized their divorce eight years later in December 2024.
