Actor Bob May, the robot in Lost in Space has died aged 69 of congestive heart failure.

Born in New York City, May was the grandson of vaudeville comedian Chic Johnson, as well as an actor, stage performer, stuntman, director and public speaker. He appeared in numerous films with Jerry Lewis and on TV shows including The Time Tunnel, McHale’s Navy and The Red Skelton Show.

It was his role as The Robot in Lost in Space for which is his best remembered. Although he didn’t speak the words himself, “Danger, Will Robinson” became a well known catchphrase; I guess in the end Mr Smith won.
