Los Angeles Lakers Win Biggest Upset In NBA History Over Golden State Warriors

Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant played his final NBA game against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday afternoon, and his younger teammates gave him a pretty nice retirement present. An unexpected victory over Stephen Curry at the peak of his career is something that Bryant will always have. According to ESPN, the Lakers won the biggest upset in the history of the National Basketball Association when they defeated the Warriors.

The Los Angeles Lakers are sitting on a 12-51 record, which puts them dead last in the Western Conference. The only team worse than the Lakers in the NBA are the Philadelphia 76ers. On the flip side, the Golden State Warriors are sitting on a 55-5 record, which has them chasing Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls for a very prestigious record. A team with a.190 winning percentage defeating one with a.917 winning percentage has never happened before in the National Basketball Association.

Normally, the Golden State Warriors are one of the best shooting teams in the NBA. On Sunday afternoon, they shot themselves out of the game and gave the Los Angeles Lakers a great chance at scoring the upset victory. Combined, the Warriors shot 13.3% from beyond the three point line. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green took 21 shots from outside the arc and converted on just two of them, which has been pretty rare during this story book season.

Draymond Green came pretty close to hitting another triple double. The 6’7?, 230 pound forward had nine points, ten rebounds and nine assists. However, Green was never able to get into a rhythm on offense. Draymond took only seven shots, hitting just two of them. The seven turnovers during the game made it a miserable afternoon for the former Michigan State Spartans star.

Kobe Bryant might have been the reason why Los Angeles Lakers fans filled up the Staples Center today, but their young guard tandem of D’Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson was the one that gave them a show. The highly dynamic and versatile duo combined for 46 points, production that they’re going to need to produce on a nightly basis if the Los Angeles Lakers want to get back towards the top of the NBA standings some day.

Along with Jordan Clarkson and D’Angelo Russell, second year forward Julius Randle is supposed to be the cornerstone of the Los Angeles Lakers for years to come. Against the Golden State Warriors, he continued to show his superstar potential in the NBA. Russell only scored 12 points, but the former Kentucky Wildcats star pulled down 14 rebounds, which is more than anyone on the Lakers or Warriors roster did for the day.

As for Kobe Bryant himself, it wasn’t anywhere near the best performances of his long and stories NBA career. The veteran forward scored 12 points, but that was mostly because he missed ten of his shots. Bryant attempted five shots from beyond the three point line, and none of them connected. At the end of the day, though, Kobe couldn’t care less about what his stats were today because his young Los Angeles Lakers teammates banded together and defeated a juggernaut in the Golden State Warriors.

For Kobe Bryant, this season is all about having fun and allowing fans to witness him in action one final time. After years of being hated on by NBA fans because the Los Angeles Lakers were so successful for so long, Bryant is now being embraced by arenas all over the country. People are letting Kobe know that they appreciate everything that he has contributed to the game of basketball. Bryant can walk away from the game with a big smile on his face.
