It’s the split that was heard around the world this morning, when People magazine unveiled their new issue , citing the split of beloved celebrity couple Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas. This comes after a tough year for the couple, who went through Zeta-Jones’ return to treatment for her bi polar disorder, and of course Douglas’ omission that he may have gotten throat cancer from oral sex .
All of that aside, everyone thought that Zeta-Jones and Douglas were two individuals that could weather the storm, and endure the ups and downs of their relationship. To the shock of many, their relationship wasn’t as solid as they let on, and the couple have split after thirteen years of marriage. Catherine and Michael share two children together, son Dylan Michael Douglas, 13, and daughter Carys Zeta Douglas, 10.
The couple who wed in 2000 are reportedly said to be taking a break. Although neither have moved to file for divorce, a family friend told the magazine, “They want the best for their kids, no matter what happens.”
