Listen To This Young Man And You’ll Never Fall For Advertisers’ And Politicians’ Baloney Again

From the archive: published Jul 4, 2014, 12 years ago. Details may have changed since.

Logical fallacies bombard us every day, from advertisers, politicians, pundits, and even just regular people who constantly try to persuade us to buy their product, vote for their man, support their point of view. And so on.

But it’s all baloney. That’s the nature of a logical fallacy. A fallacy is a form of argument often called a “mistake,” but is usually used on purpose — the point being to make you think you’re hearing an argument that makes sense, but in reality is total nonsense.

But that’s not news. People believe all kinds of nonsense, all the time. The question is, do you want to believe a bunch of complete malarkey?

If not, and we hope not, please take three minutes to listen to this highly intelligent — and clear-thinking — young man named Michael Gallagher. In this brief video blog, he explains six of the most commonly used logical fallacies, how to spot them and why they are ridiculous.

There are plenty of resources on line to learn about logical fallacies, but with Michael’s video, you’ll need just a few minutes to protect yourself from the baloney you hear every day.
