Lindsay Lohan famously filed a lawsuit against the company behind GTA V , declaring that the developers ripped her off to create one of the game’s characters. Now, Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive have fired back against the actress.
If you worked your way through Grand Theft Auto V over the past year, chances are you stumbled across an annoying Hollywood actress seemingly inspired by the infamous antics of the Mean Girls star. While the game relies heavily on an abundance of satire and parody, Lohan believes the developers essentially infringed on her image and privacy rights. As a result, Lindsay filed a lawsuit against the companies.
According to The Guardian , Rockstar and Take-Two have finally responded to Lohan’s lawsuit . In short: They firmly believe that Lindsay decided to take them to court simply to generate a little publicity for herself. Since Lohan loves attention more than starring in ridiculously awful movies, she tried to steer the limelight in her general direction with the aforementioned lawsuit. Lohan, of course, feels differently about the matter.
The were quick to shut down Lindsay Lohan in court documents.
“Lindsay Lohan complains that her image and persona have been wrongfully used by Take-Two in the video game Grand Theft Auto V, but her claim is so legally meritless that it lacks any good-faith basis, and can only have been filed for publicity purposes.”
Lohan, meanwhile, thinks the GTA V developers stole her likeness — right down to her outfits — when they created Lacey Jonas. The New York Daily News reports that neither Rockstar nor Take-Two asked for Lindsay’s permission before they moved forward with the character. In response, she put together a lawsuit.
“The portraits of the Plaintiff (Lohan) incorporated her image, likeness, clothing, outfits, Plaintiff’s clothing line products, ensemble in the form of hats, hair style, sunglasses, jean shorts worn by the Plaintiff that were for sale to the public at least two years [before the game was released].”
Of course, this isn’t the first time Lindsay Lohan has attempted to reap the benefits of someone else’s hard work. The actress sued Pitbull for using her name in a song, though her case was ultimately dismissed. Rockstar and Take-Two feel this lawsuit is very similar in nature, and are asking that a judge dismiss it as well.
