Lil Wayne may have irritated his fans by pushing back the release date for Tha Carter V from October 28 to December 9, but at least he’s giving them some new music to chew on until that day arrives. Assuming, of course, it doesn’t get pushed back again.
If you missed this year’s American Music Awards, then you didn’t get to see Weezy debut his latest tune, “Start a Fire,” featuring rumored love interest Christina Milian. Fortunately for everyone who decided against watching the AMAs, we live in the age of the internet, which means the song is now available on various websites for your listening pleasure.
Direct Lyrics reports that the four-minute tune should appear on Tha Carter V, an album so impossibly epic that Lil Wayne decided to release it in two parts. In fact, the website thinks the song is so catchy that it won’t have any problem “starting a fire” on radio.

Christina Milian apparently had nothing but positive things to say about her collaboration with Lil Wayne. In fact, the singer told E! Online it was Weezy’s manager who thought the song should appear on the rapper’s upcoming opus.
“This record has actually been around for a second and actually while we were filming the show. His manager Cortez heard the song and was like, ‘Wayne needs this on his album’ and literally when we were filming the episode [of Christina Milian Turned Up ] while we were in the studio; that’s how that whole thing happened.”
Lil Wayne fans were understandably upset when the rapper decided to postpone Tha Carter V, which was originally slated to arrive towards the end of October. According to the Guardian, Wayne simply had too many songs in the proverbial can, and he didn’t want to “cheat his fans” by not giving them everything he’d created.
Wayne explained everything in a video to his fans.
“I know the album was supposed to be out today … but we had to push the album back due to a problem. I got too many songs recorded and I worked on it way too much, way too much, to give y’all just half of it. If I dropped the album today it would have to be [cut to] like 12 or 13 songs. And I refuse to do it. I refuse to cheat my fans. I refuse to cheat myself.”
What do you think about Lil Wayne’s new song, “Start a Fire.”
