Fox TV axed America’s Most Wanted in May citing high production costs and low ratings, but fear not criminal fearing viewers the show has a new lease on life thanks to the Lifetime network which just signed the show for Season 25.

America’s Most Wanted constantly won it’s time slot last year with an average of 5 million viewers, however FOX later announced that due to rising production costs it was no longer profitable as a weekly series.

Fox viewers aren’t out of luck quite yet, the network says they will continue to air quarterly versions of the show with the first special arriving in October.

Since 1988 AMW has helped capture nearly 1,200 fugitives.

Speaking of the networks acquisition Lifetime president Nancy Dubuc proclaimed:

“‘America’s Most Wanted’ is a seminal program that provides a very valuable service to both viewers and law enforcement agencies,” while adding, “For more than two decades John Walsh has been leading the fight against crime and it’s an honor to partner with him on bringing back this important show.”

Show creator John Walsh, who’s own son was abducted and murdered in 1981 said of the move:

“I’ve always believed there was something very special about ‘America’s Most Wanted’ and that there should be a home for it on television, and I couldn’t be happier to now be able bring it back on Lifetime.”

Walsh also revealed:

“We’ve often been called the court of last resort. Now we are back in the game and ready to saddle up for another season to get justice for victims and put dangerous criminals behind bars.”

I admittedly don’t watch the show all the time but If I’m home and it’s on I’ll take a quick glance, this may be the one and only reason I ever leave the Lifetime network on in my home.

Will you be watching America’s Most Wanted on Lifetime?
