Expression is crucial when it comes to conveying to the onlooker your eclectic taste and personality. People crave to be different, individual, and creative. We display these essential aspects in the decisions we make in our clothing, our hairstyle and color, piercings and tattoos, or living sans the body art. All of these things can subject us to superficial judgment from spectators. Assumptions are assessed to our socioeconomic status, education, intelligence, interests, sexual predilection, popularity, etc. based simply on a glance. And yet socially, we emulate to certain standards of conformity.

For example, how many people do you know own a cell phone? Exactly. Mobile phones have become an integral part of our social culture. So much so there’s even a phobia. Nomophobia is the fear or onset anxiety of being out of mobile phone contact. The term is an abbreviation of ‘no-mobile-phone phobia.’ Even with the nasty habits cell phones have created: people texting or talking when operating heavy machinery (i.e. a car), the irresistible need to check their social network or text messages while sitting down for a meal with others, or carelessly airing dirty laundry in a vulgarly loud conversation while in public, we still insist on the necessity of owning one.

Naturally, it’s expected that a person would want to individualize their phone too. It’s an extension of them. Now you can clad your Apple iPhone 5 in the latest thing guaranteed to stand you out from the crowd: a life-sized, blazing red, claws included lobster case.

According to Mashable.com , the inspiration for this unique phone case, designed by Elliot Gorham of NoddyBoffin.com , was meant to pay homage to Salvador Dali’s Lobster Telephone created in 1936, pictured below. Unlike the typical phone case, it doesn’t offer functionality of protection and style. Its features include camera incapability, is ergonomically awkward, too big for your pocket or handbag and most importantly, its ability to cause its users embarrassment.
