Leighton Meester is married. Yes, the Leighton Meester, who revealed to Marie Claire , in the April 2012 issue, that she never thought she would ever want to married, tied the knot to her beau Adam Brody, only three months after their engagement was confirmed .
“I never had a boyfriend until I was 18,” the Gossip Girls star said, during the interview. “It’s nice, I guess — when you like them. But it isn’t the most important thing. I’m not sure I ever want to get married. The only time a relationship is good is when you really love them. I don’t want to hang out with some guy I just like.”
Apparently Meester’s ideas of marriage have changed significantly since, the news broke yesterday, she married the O.C. actor two weeks ago.
“Leighton and Adam got married in Northern California by the ocean a couple of weeks ago,” a source told E! News . “It was a very small and intimate wedding with close family and friends. It was beautiful.”
They were later seen at Mexico’s St. Regis Punta Mita Resort from February 12 to February 15. The hotel would not comment on the couple, but it is a very real possibility that they were vacationing for their honeymoon.
Meester and Brody met on the set of their film The Oranges , that was released in 2011. At the time, a source revealed that they “were always close and friendly.”
The wedding was a major secret, as most of their relationship has been, since the beginning. In February 2013, there was speculation that the couple was dating. Then in November 2013, reports surfaced that they were, in fact, engaged.
So, how were they able to keep their low-key wedding a secret from fans and the paparazzi? They have never been ones to flaunt their relationship, but in the months up to the wedding they have steered clear of social media, and they had their wedding out of LA. Neither Meester or Brody have ever publicly confirmed their relationship or their engagement, and have managed to keep their love life out of the public eye.
Will the couple ever publicly come forth with their relationship, or will it remain a Hollywood secret? Maybe. PEOPLE reported on February 18, 2014 that Brody was recently seen wearing a gold band on that finger, over the weekend at LAX, while his new wife was in Chicago preparing for her upcoming Broadway role in Of Mice and Men . So far, there have been no reports of Meester wearing a wedding ring.
