Lava Mobiles, the Indian mobile phone manufacturer is continuing its launch spree with yet another launch. The company which has in the previous week announced the Lava Iris Pro 20 and the QPad E704 tablet has added another smartphone – the Lava 406Q in India. The Lava 406Q is an interesting handset in itself because of the fact that it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor – making it one of the most affordable handsets to adorn a chip from the premium chip maker. Let us review the key specifications of the phone now.

The Display

The Lava 406Q features a 4-inch display with a resolution of 800*480 pixels (WVGA). This translates to a PPI density of 233. It can display 16.7 million colors and is a capacitive LCD panel.

The Hardware

Like mentioned earlier, the Lava 406Q sports a the Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 SoC that houses a quad core Cortex A7 CPU with each core capable of a maximum of 1.2 Ghz. Taking care of the graphics is the Adreno 302 GPU. There is 1 GB of RAM –which is simply awesome for a phone retailing at such a low price. Internal memory on the Lava 406Q is a not too surprising 4 GB – which is apt for a phone of this class. A micro SD card slot has been provided for memory expansion. The phone gets a 1700 Mah battery which is slightly on the lower side – but also to be noted is the fact that it has a smaller display and a lower resolution to power.

Camera

The main camera on the Lava 406Q is a 5 megapixel fixed focus unit. This is slightly disappointing – but then again, I would remind you about the ultra-low price of this device before you complain about that. There is a VGA front camera as well for your video calling and Skype requirements. The camera gets a LED flash for low light imaging. It also supports video recording in 720p resolution. The camera also boasts of Zero Shutter Lag and various other software modes.

The phone runs Android 4.2 at launch and is upgradable to version 4.3 as well. The press release for the Lava 406Q doesn’t talk about a KitKat upgrade, though.

Connectivity

The Lava 406Q features comprehensive connectivity features starting from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB to A-Gps and a 3.5 mm audio jack. The device is a dual SIM 3G capable handset with one SIM being 3G capable.

Pricing and Availability

The Lava 406Q has been priced at Rs.7,499 (USD 125) in India and comes in black & white colors. You can pre-order the phone from Flipkart in a few days from now. While it would be available in retail stores eventually, in the first month of its launch, the Lava 406Q would only be available through Flipkart.
