Kelly Clarkson, 30, has been in the public eye for 11 years now, and the very first American Idol has been dealing with scrutiny about her weight probably since her very first appearance on the show.
Kelly Clarkson isn’t immune to the insinuation made when a fan mentions her weight, and the singer explains that at this point in her career, she is very, very tired of fans making pointed comments about her figure. Clarkson says in an interview with Redbook :
“I’m so over it. What really upsets me is when [fans] say, ‘You’re tiny. What would they think of me?’ That’s heartbreaking.”
While Clarkson says she has a workout routine, she also feels that there is too much judgment of both famous and non-famous women to conform to a single body ideal- the former AI star says:
“I’ve always been that kid who was chunkier than the others. I don’t think it’s fair to put that kind of pressure on girls. I’m a very normal person. I’m someone who’s sick of trying to bend to what society tries to bend you to.”
Kelly Clarkson also opened up about her experiences on the hit karaoke competition show, saying that while it made her famous, American Idol was pretty bad for her mental state. She admits:
“I’m going to be completely honest—I had no one looking out for me. They were looking out for the show, and it was horrible. I was 19 years old. I was smart enough to know that it wasn’t about me, but that didn’t make it any easier. I’m all cried out about it, but my first four years, I hated my life; I almost quit a dozen times.”
Far from the 19-year-old that hit it big on the music contest reality show, Clarkson says she’s very happy now, and dating the son of her manager, Brandon Blackstock.
