In the photo, Kate seems to be carrying a rather pained expression as William holds her hand. The photo has even made it to Reddit groups where eagle-eyed fans have been attempting to decode the mood and behavior of the couple when the photo was taken.
Kate’s expression has made several people believe that rumors of their turbulent marriage might be true. Conspiracy theorists have claimed that Kate is no longer very fond of William and doesn’t want him to be touching her. The photo was shared on a Reddit group called ‘Royal Tea’ where one of the many comments read: “This looks like these two are forced to be together, no chemistry at all. I have seen husband and wives in hospitals showing more feeling toward each other than these two. Maybe other photos are better ,even the hand holding doesn’t seem genuine. That is my opinion.”
Another Reddit user claimed that their relationship “looks like for display only.”
“Doesn’t look romantic as she has a face on her!” someone else wrote.
These theories, however, were countered by other netizens who defended Kate and her marriage to William. A person said, “She does not look well at all. The expression on her face is pure pain that she’s doing her best to hide. The expression on William’s face is that he’s doing everything he can do to help.”

“They’re not walking holding hands, he’s helping her down steps in her narrow high heels,” another user pointed out that the moment wasn’t supposed to be romantic. People also pointed out that Kate looked quite happy with her husband in other photos taken shortly after. In one of the pictures, Kate had a big smile on her face as she gave a side hug to her husband.
Fans of the royal couple argued that Kate is recovering from cancer, which is why her face might look agitated or pale. During her battle with cancer, she disappeared from the limelight, and people were quick to assume that things weren’t well between the couple. However, the rumors died down when it was discovered that her absence was due to her battle with cancer and ongoing chemotherapy. In January this year, she announced that she’s in remission.
Though Kate has resumed her duties as a royal, she is attempting to maintain a balance. She occasionally skips certain royal affairs to prioritize her physical well-being.
