Kate Middleton paid a visit to the National Portrait Gallery in London during her first official solo engagement Wednesday night. Prince William was deployed last week to the Falkland Islands, but Middleton, according to local reports, performed, well, royally.

ABC reports that Middleton, who was joined by Paul McCartney’s daughters Mary and Bella, wore a grey tweed coat dress that was cinched at the waist.

The National Portrait Gallery in London is just one of the many locations that Middleton will be visiting in the next year. In January, Middleton announced that she would be donating her time to several charitable organizations, including an art therapy and addiction charity, the Scout Association (similar to the Girl Scouts) and several children’s hospices. Last night’s trip to the National Portrait Gallery also gave Middleton a chance to support The Art Room, which provides art therapy to kids.

The gallery was a good place for Middleton to start as she is passionate, and knowledgeable, about art history. Middleton was an art history major at the University of St. Andrews where she met Prince William.

William will be in the Falkland Islands for the next six week doing search-and-rescue exercises with the Royal Air Force.

E! reports that Middleton will head to Liverpoop next week to attend an alcohol free pub called Brink to support Britain’s Action on Addiction program.
