Actress Karen Gillan revealed her freshly-shaved head during the Guardians of the Galaxy panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
The Dr. Who star will portray the villainous Nebula in James Gunn’s upcoming adaptation. In order to properly portray the character, the actress decided to go completely bald.
According to the Daily Mail , Karen Gillan showed up at Comic-Con 2013 with a head full of red hair. She later revealed her shaved scalp while discussing the flick with her fellow Guardians of the Galaxy cast members on Saturday.
“It’s liberating. I think everyone here should shave their heads,” the actress said.
After showing off her bald head, Gillan tossed the wig into the crowd. You can check out the unveiling by watching the video embedded below.
James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy tells the story of an intergalactic police force that is charged with saving the universe from a band of sinister villains. Karen Gillan will portray a pirate who spends a fair amount of time trying to destroy countless civilizations.
In addition to Gillan, the upcoming adaptation also stars Chris Pratt , Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Ophelia Lovibond, Lee Pace, Glenn Close, Benicio Del Toro, John C. Reilly, and The Walking Dead alum Michael Rooker.
The Mirror reports that the actress has a few other projects currently lined up. Gillan is slated to star alongside Katee Sackhoff, Brenton Thwaites, and Rory Cochrane in director Mike Flanagan upcoming horror flick Oculus . This endeavor is also scheduled for release next year.
The actress will also star in Harris Goldberg’s romantic comedy The List with Patrick Fugit, JoBeth Williams, Eddie Kaye Thomas, and Jennifer Morrison. Like Gillan’s other current projects, this flick should arrive in theaters at some point next year.
