Justin Bieber Inevitably Makes Cut On Top 50 Things Hated About Modern Life

From the archive: published Feb 27, 2014, 12 years ago. Details may have changed since.

Justin Bieber has punched in at No. 42 on a recently published list of Top 50 Things We Hate About Modern Life.

570 British whingers took part.

For the teen singer, making the cut on lists that begin with the words ‘Worst Of,’ ‘Least Likely To,’ or ‘People We Dislike,’ has become something of a habit of late.

And who can forget the over 263,000 who felt compelled to sign a petition calling for the 19-year-old’s deportation back to his native Canada.

But Bieber can take heart that he’s not No. 1 on the modern life irritants list, or even the Top 30.

However, Bieber is the only real “person” on the list and that’s significant. It’s probably not an accident that some of the items the polled Brits found annoying are things the Canadian is known for.

Take for instance Selfies, No.6 on the poll. The singer is famous for his love of a good old pose.

On the other hand, endless shirtless photos of the superstar displaying his tattoos and abs are what his teen constituency demands.

No. 9 was camera phone, ditto above. Using poor grammar makes the grade at No.15.

Here again, Bieber triumphs. Although, it’s worth noting most of the pop prince’s grammar gaffes take place on Twitter and Instagram, both of which have “character” limits.

No. 14, texting while walking and No. 16 text speak are related gripes, as are Americanisms, which is – like, just so like – No. 17.

Twitter Trolls get a rightful mention at No. 23. It can’t be denied Bieber’s army of Beliebers have been known to behave abominably online.

But, what young fandom doesn’t?

Directioners for One Direction, Arianators for singer Ariana Grande, Glamberts for Adam Lambert – they’ve all had their time in the sun.

But you’d be wrong in thinking trolldom is the sole province of teen Internet users. Just ask Alec Baldwin, Kanye West, Ricky Jervais, or Donald Trump.

Bieber gets a break from laying claim to the rest of the modern woe makers.

These include, in at No.1 Self Service Check-Outs. No explanation needed. Sales calls make their insistent way in at No. 4. Reality TV gets called out at no. 5 and – my personal favorite anger management contender – slow Internet at No. 7.

Weirdly, expensive holidays comes in at No.11, which is balanced out by elitist sneering at budget airlines at No.12. For me, premiership football at No. 20 would be a close second to slow Internet.

But I can’t agree with South Korean rapper Psy’s “Gangnam Style ” dance at No. 20. It’s hideousness is its glory.

In other Bieber news, the “Baby ” singer can presently be seen in police jail videos released by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.

Over 10 hours of footage was captured on CCTV at Miami Beach Police Station last month, where Bieber was taken following his January 23 arrest on suspicion of DUI, resisting arrest without violence, and driving with an expired license is now available for general gawping.

Police stated the superstar and co-arrestee, singer Khalil Amir Sharieff, were drag racing on a closed off residential street.

In one clip, the star is seen looking none too clever as he stumbles about attempting to walk a straight white line in a jailhouse sobriety test in bright, orange shoes.

In the second video, Bieber is seen dropping to the floor for series of pushups. It’s all terribly interesting.
