Joey Feek and her husband Rory Feek are still topping the charts!
For the second week in a row, Joey and Rory’s latest album Joey+Rory: Hymns That Are Important To Us, which was released on February 12, has landed them a No. 1 spot on the Top Country Albums and Top Christian Albums charts. The duo also remains No. 4 on Billboard’s Top 200 list.
On February 19, Rory Feek wrote about their album, which he refers to as “Joey’s album,” on his blog This Life I Live. Rory recalled receiving the phone call from their manager who was telling them that their albums were selling off the shelves.
“When the label called to give us the news I immediately took the phone in to Joey,” Rory told People Magazine. “This recording was ‘hers’ from the beginning. This is one that she has always wanted to make, and she’s worked so hard to make it happen, in spite of the difficult circumstances she is facing. As I congratulated her, she responded through tears: ‘No, honey, this is God’s record.'”
Although Joey appeared to be beating the disease, an October, 2015, scan revealed that her cancer had returned, and was spreading to other parts of her body, including her colon. The doctors told Joey her cancer was now terminal, leaving her with a decision that no one should have to make: continue treatment knowing it wouldn’t cure the cancer, or say enough is enough. As heartbreaking as it was, Joey decided to stop receiving treatment. She then returned to her home in hospice care to spend the remainder of her days with her family and friends.
“When we hung up, Joey and I sat there holding hands… knowing that in time those sales could turn into some income for our family and that could really help, now that there are no more concerts or income from shows.
“We talked about what a blessing it was, and then she looked at me very seriously and said, ‘I need you to do something for me…’ I told her I would be glad to. Then with all the sincerity in the world, she said, ‘I need you to be generous… God has blessed us so much. We need to bless others.'”
