Joan Rivers’ $28M Penthouse Oozes Opulence Marie Antoinette Would Be Very Proud Of

Joan Rivers sure knew how to live. Her penthouse on the Upper East Side in New York City is proof of that.

The opulent digs just sold to an unnamed Middle Eastern royalty , the New York Daily News reported. They sealed the deal quickly, paying the impressive asking price of $28 million likely in cash.

Good thing Joan already lived like royalty.

This place has to be seen to be believed — it’s gilded, sparkling, luxurious, and absolutely fabulous.

In 2012, Joan described it as “Louis XIV meets Fred and Ginger,” or more specifically Marie Antoinette , Today added. She said she always identified with the beheaded royal because of her “great style”; she would’ve lived in a place like her penthouse too, if only she had the money.

The penthouse spans the top three floors of a building at 1 E. 62 nd Street, boasting 5,100 square feet in space, CNBC reported.

It has an ornate door, 23-foot ceilings, a gilded balcony, and four-and-a-half bathrooms. If that wasn’t enough, Rivers even had a ballroom — watched over by a mezzanine — music room, lined the walls in antique boiserie paneling, kept warm with two spectacular fireplaces, read in a wood-paneled library, and slept in a master suite with French doors that open luxuriously onto a private terrace that overlooks Central Park.

As one can imagine, several people put in offers for the comedienne’s pad, which has been on the market since February, and off and on since 2009. Rivers’ daughter, Melissa, handled the sale.

Evidently, Middle Eastern buyers are a common presence in the Big Apple, a city they consider well-priced with lower taxes than London or Paris.

As the penthouse now awaits its new occupants, her daughter is continuing the legal battle that has followed her sudden death last year during a routine endoscopy.

Rivers’ attorney, Nkasi Okafor, recently submitted papers in Manhattan Supreme Court that compelled Yorkville Endoscopy’s doctors to admit they took photos with Joan while she was unconscious and refused to stop the procedure.

Their attorney, Jay Rappaport, rejected the filing, saying much of its contents “are hotly contested and in dispute.”

Today has the amazing pictures of the comedienne’s penthouse.
