Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel is heading to primetime! ABC announced on Monday that Kimmel will take the helm at this years 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

In announcing his part in the show Kimmel managed to do what he does best, make fun of a fellow star:

“I hope to be able to do for the Emmy’s this year what Eddie Murphy did for the Oscars.”

Kimmel is the second host in three years to take on hosting duties for the show, the last talk show host to give a go at the awards ceremony was Jimmy Fallon back in 2010. Last year the Primetime Emmy awards were hosted by actress Jane Lynch.

Before Jimmy Kimmel takes on the Primetime Emmy awards live from the Nokia Theatre on Sept. 23 he’ll get a little bit of hosting practice when he leads the White House Correspondents Dinner next month.

Kimmel is no stranger to hosting, aside from working in his 10th season on ABC he has previously hosted the American Music Awards and the ESPY awards.

Kimmel will also have an experienced Emmy director on his side with 12-time Emmy director Don Mischer set to executive produce the show. Don also recently directed and produced the Academy Awards. In a statement regarding the Emmy’s Mischer said:

“We love television and look forward to working with the television academy and ABC in creating a show that is fast-paced, humorous, unpredictable, and at times irreverent, but clearly celebratory of our incredible industry.”
