Jennifer Hudson appears to be responding to backlash from The Voice fans over her constant references to her company, JHud Productions, on the NBC series over the past few weeks. Shortly after viewers called her out for constantly referring to herself as JHud and repeatedly mentioning her business venture while building her team on the show, she’s now hitting back and explaining the difference between Jennifer Hudson and her other persona, JHud.
“It’s all me at the end of the day, I am who I am,” Hudson said during a recent chat on Essence’s Yes, Girl! Podcast when asked about the difference between Jennifer and JHud.
“I refer to Jennifer Hudson as, like, everyone from jump has always known me as Jennifer Hudson. The celebrity Jennifer Hudson,” she said, referring to her first foray into the spotlight back in 2004 when she appeared on Season 3 of American Idol.
“From that everyone comes up with their own persona or perception or whatever they think that is. That’s not the person,” the coach then added, seemingly in response to being seriously called out by fans of the NBC show for her constant references to JHud Productions. “That’s not who the person is. A lot of the time people get that twisted.”
“I want people to know that I’m human,” Jennifer then continued while explaining her two different personas during the podcast chat. “JHud is the girl, Jennifer Hudson is the celebrity.”
Hudson’s explanation comes shortly after The Voice fans slammed the star for constantly referencing her production company, JHud Productions, while building her team on Season 13 alongside fellow coaches Miley Cyrus, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton after joining the show earlier this year.
After Jennifer repeatedly referred to JHud productions in recent weeks, a slew of Twitter users made it pretty clear that they weren’t exactly loving hearing Hudson constantly refer to herself as JHud week after week as she spoke about her business venture, which may have inspired her to speak out.
Social media users had some pretty scathing responses to the Oscar winner’s JHud talk on The Voice, many of whom claimed that they were “tired” of hearing about the company on the NBC show.
The former American Idol star trademarked the name JHud Productions in 2016, and the business oversees her musical ventures as well as her forays into films and television.
But it’s not just when it comes to JHud that Jennifer’s been feeling the heat from The Voice viewers this season.
Viewers also slammed Hudson across Twitter just last week, claiming the “Trouble” singer appears to believe that the show is “all about her.”
Some even claimed that Jennifer appears to have been shifting focus away from the contestants with her over-the-top personality, though others were quick to defend the singer and claimed that she’s been bringing the entertainment factor to the currently airing episodes.
As for what’s next for the Dreamgirls actress, she’ll be heading back to the U.K. next year to return to The Voice U.K., while Kelly Clarkson and Alicia Keys will return to the U.S. version for Season 14 in the place of Hudson and Cyrus.
Season 13 of The Voice airs on Monday and Tuesday nights on NBC.
