President Donald Trump’s recent statements about the U.S. strikes in Iran have given mixed signals. While the world continues to worry about global oil shortage, the president still has no clear idea when the war will end. This unstable situation has caused a number of challenges to pop up.
U.S. law enforcement agencies now believe Iran has activated its sleeper cell network against the country.
According to a report from ABC News, an urgent federal alert was sent across several law enforcement departments. It carries information about the U.S. intelligence intercepting several coded signals of Iranian origin. Signal analyses suggest they were broadcast across multiple countries. It took place right after the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The alert revealed that the signals noted were initially coded and were meant only for “clandestine recipients.” Experts now fear these signals may have been meant to activate sleeper cell agents and might carry instructions for those agents to operate outside their home country.
Explaining the delicate situation, the alert mentioned, “While the exact contents of these signals cannot currently be determined, the sudden appearance of a new station with international rebroadcast characteristics warrants heightened situational awareness.”

Considering the heightened escalations between the two countries, retaliation had already been expected. In fact, before the U.S. bombing of several nuclear facilities in Iran, the latter had warned of reprisals that could turn fatal.
Officials strongly believe that the intercepted coded signals were meant to shake up the sleeper cell network of Iran. As a result, authorities fear a high chance of attacks on Americans.
On Monday, March 9, Trump was quizzed on the same by the press. The president admitted that the sleeper cells were a priority issue and the country’s current fear. However, he assured that his department had been actively working on the signals. It is digging up every piece of information related to the case, Trump said.
However, the president also did not forget to blame the Democrats. Trump argued that the tools used to decode these signals from Iran have been stalled because of the ongoing partial government shutdown. He said, “We’ve got very, very good intelligence on that. Yeah, we know a lot about them. The biggest problem we have is the Democrat shutdown. We know a lot about them, but the shutdown doesn’t allow us to do what we have to do.”

Before Trump’s statement, former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Chris Swecker raised the alarm. He warned that a Hezbollah or Hamas cell attack on American soil was possible.
Explaining what could happen ahead, Swecker had mentioned, “If ever there’s going to be a Hezbollah cell or a Hamas cell act in the United States in a violent way, it’s now. We know that they have cells here. We also know that there are lone supporters, many of whom have come out in these protest groups.”
Amid testing times, the news of retaliation from Iran has shaken several Americans. Public anxiety has risen over what could be potential sleeper cell attacks in the U.S. mainland. The looming questions have sparked debates over border security and intelligence funding. They have also raised fresh doubts about the strength of counter-terrorism in the country.
