Photos of the iPad Mini’s backside and Lightning dock connector were leaked on Tuesday, just ahead of Apple’s own press release event for the new miniature iPad tablet. Apple has not confirmed the authenticity of the images.
The components do appear to be consistent with earlier parts leaks, and The Wall Street Journal has recently confirmed that iPad Mini production is well underway. Various Apple analysts predict that the iPad Mini will sell 10 million units in Q4 2012.
The image below shows the iPad Mini in a stacked comparison with the original Apple iPad size. At 7-inches, the tablet will directly compete with the Amazon Kindle Fire HD and the Google Nexus 7. The iPad Mini will likely be offered with a premium price based on Apple’s pricing history.
Apple as expected has shied away from revealing any aspects of the iPad Mini. In the past, former Apple CEO Steve Jobs dismissed 7-inch tablets. At 7.85 inches, the iPad borders closer to 8 inches than 7 inches.
Regardless of Apple’s offering, the company will be met with fierce competition from competitors offering their tablets at the low price of just $199.
