An Idaho man was arrested after breaking into a woman’s home at 3 a.m. and strangling her while attempting to s*xually assault her. He was identified as Tyler Humphries, 39, and was charged with one count of attempted r—, attempted strangulation, burglary, and domestic violence battery.

In addition to those felony charges, Humphries was also charged with misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor possession after police found a smoking pipe in his possession.

According to police, Humphries broke into the victim’s home on July 16. When she woke up, she found him standing over her with his pants down. He threatened her he was going to r— her “until she told him the truth.”

He then got on top of her and tried to s*xually assault her. When she tried to scream for help, he covered her mouth and grabbed her by the throat.

 

According to arrest documents, the victim managed to break away from Humphries and reach her child’s room nearby. The child bravely wrapped a blanket around the victim before confronting Humphries. At the time, Humphries reportedly threw the child against a wall before leaving their home.

After arriving at the scene, responding officers found a bruise on the victim’s upper thigh. She told them that her throat hurt and felt like it was burning. She was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, where doctors found her throat muscles tightened and gave her muscle relaxers to keep her airway from closing.

The following day, Humphries reportedly returned to the home briefly. When he came back a second time about 10 minutes later, officers arrested him on an unrelated warrant.

During the arrest, he had 4.7 grams of mar**uana and a glass pipe. He initially told the police officers he had only gone to the woman’s home to cuddle, before admitting he had assaulted her. He was booked into the Bonneville County Jail.

At the time of publication, Humphries has not yet been appointed a public attorney and has not posted bail. According to East Idaho News, he may face up to 52.5 years in prison and fines totaling up to $163,000 if convicted on all charges. His preliminary hearing is set for July 31.

The relationship between Humphries and the victim remains unclear, and police have not confirmed whether they knew each other prior or if he randomly went to her home. The case is still under investigation.
