Hunter Hayes is digging deep in his soul to find material for his new album.

Fans of the singer were no doubt delighted when he debuted the song “Invisible” during the 2014 Grammy Awards on Sunday evening. During a recent interview with USA Today, Hayes said his latest tune effectively serves as a teaser for the new album.

“There’s a lot of soul-searching on this next record. That’s not intentional, like, ‘I want deep stuff on this next record.’ But I ended up with a very emotional record. There are highers highs and lower lows. [‘Invisible’] was the one we felt we would possibly be getting out first” Hunter Hayes explained during the chat.

Hayes said “Invisible” is a ballad about feeling isolated and trying to find acceptance. Although he and co-writers Bonnie Baker and Katrina Elam were reportedly aiming for an uptempo number, they ended up with something a little deeper.

“There were a lot of messages about fitting in with music and how purposeful music can be — this sense of having a place where you always fit in and music being that place,” he said.

He added, “‘Invisible’ is a totally new concept for me,” Hayes explained. “I always write about something pretty personal, [but] this sets a new standard for me. I didn’t go in to write this song necessarily, I went in to write something else.”

In addition to releasing “Invisible,” Hunter Hayes also revealed a handful of tour dates. The singer will kick off a string of shows in Pikeville, Kentucky this March. The singer hopes to have his new batch of songs ready to rock the Billboard charts this May.

Instead of going it alone, Hunter Hayes is bringing a few acts to help him entertain the masses later this year. Dan + Shay and The Voice winner Danielle Bradbery were recently tapped to open the gigs for Hayes. Check out a list of We’re Not Invisible Tour dates below.
