A HIMYM alternate ending is on the way, so fans left unsatisfied by the real ending of How I Met Your Mother will get a chance to substitute a new one.

The true HIMYM ending on March 31 came with plenty of controversy, as fans expressed their displeasure with the fate of Ted Mosby and the titular mother.
The largely disappointing episode started by tearing apart Barney and Robin, showing viewers that they divorced just three years after the wedding that occupied the entire final season of the show.
Later in the episode, Ted finally gets to meet the mother of his children, but viewers find out that their love did not end happily. As many fans had theorized , Ted is actually telling his kids about how he met their mother after her death. Viewers also learned that the entire story was really just a way of asking for his kids’ blessing to ask out Robin Scherbatsky one last time.
But fans left unhappy by the death of Tracy McConnell (the real name of the mother) will have a HIMYM alternate ending to consider. Carter Bays, the show’s creator and executive producer, let fans know about the new ending in a tweet on Friday.

He added more about the HIMYM alternate ending, saying it did not include new footage but does show a different outcome for Ted Mosby.
Bays detailed the new ending in a series of tweets, “We only shot one script, but through edit-room magic we had two possible outcomes for the series. We chose the ending we chose and we stand by it. But we loved the other version, too. We’re going to include that version on the Complete Series DVD as an alternate finale to How I Met Your Mother.”
But one fan already beat Bays to the punch with a HIMYM alternate ending that has racked up tens of thousands of views on YouTube . In this ending, the show fades out after Ted meets the mother, gracefully allowing her to live and moving straight to the end credits.
