Harold Camping Retires From Predicting the Apocalypse

Our latest doomsday “expert” and “prophet” was wrong when he predicted the world would come to an end back in 1994. And Last May 21. And last October 21. Three strikes is out kiddies, and Harold Camping has at long last admitted defeat.

Camping issued a long-awaited apology yesterday, admitting that he was wrong about the May 21st rapture. He didn’t mention being wrong about October 21st, but we’re assuming since he’s still here and not sipping on a margarita in heaven, he knows he was wrong about that date too. “We now realize that those people who were calling our attention to the Bible’s statement that ‘of that day and hour knoweth no man,’ were right … and Family Radio was wrong,” said Camping via his Family Radio website .

Camping further clarified that his prediction was both “incorrect and sinful,” and finally stated that “Family Radio has no interest in even considering another date.” Not wanting to completely let go of his life’s work, he did argue that his prophesy had spread the good word. “Even as God used sinful Balaam to accomplish His purposes, so He used our sin to accomplish His purpose of making the whole world acquainted with the Bible.” Acquainted or just mocked, Harold? In any case, he didn’t issue any apology for his failed 1994 prediction, instead saying that it “was a cudgel to keep studying.” Also, no word as to the fate of the millions of dollars donated to “make the whole world acquainted with the Bible”.

Seems as though this is the best we’re going to get out of this guy. I’ve got to give him some credit for admitting he was wrong, even if it took him almost a year.

Well, it looks like “thou shalt not know the day nor the hour” after all. Then again, you already know that since we’re all still here.

Do you think we’ll be hearing from Harold Camping again any time soon?
