Even with awful reviews The Hangover II easily ruled the box office weekend taking in $86.5 million according to the films production company Warner Bros.
The movie opened on Thursday with an opening day take of $31.6 million, a new opening day record for an R-rated comedy. The movie also managed an impressive $30 million on Friday.
Also opening with a solid take was the animated film Kung Fu Panda Fu which took in $48 million while featuring the voices of Jack Black and Angelina Jolie . The animated flick was well received at this years Cannes Films Festival. While still an impressive opening the movie earned $12.2 million less than the original which was released in 2008.
When all was said and done the movie business earned $270 million over the weekend, handily defeating the former Memorial Day record of $254.6 million set in 2007.
