Halo: Reach will hit store shelves in Fall 2010, and when it does, you’ll be able to invest in one of the most opulent “special edition” game packages yet – for $150.

As well as just buying a standalone copy of Halo: Reach , there’ll also be a $79.99 “Limited Edition” version, and the aforementioned $149.99 “Legendary Edition”. Here’s what each will contain:

Limited Edition ($79.99)

– Sold in special ONI “black box” packaging – Exclusive in-game Elite armor set for multiplayer – “Artifact bag” containing “Dr. Halsey’s personal journal and other classified documents and effects that unravel long held secrets from the Halo universe.”

Legendary Edition ($149.99)

– Sold in UNSC packaging – Exclusive in-game Elite armor set for multiplayer – “Artifact bag” containing “Dr. Halsey’s personal journal and other classified documents and effects that unravel long held secrets from the Halo universe.” – A hand-painted, numbered statue of Noble Team, as crafted by McFarlane Toys – Exclusive multiplayer Spartan armor effect (flaming helmet, as seen here ).

Oh, and you’ll probably also get a copy of the game with each. You know, in case you forgot about that. Okay, soapbox time, if you’ll kindly indulge me:

1. I’m sick to the back teeth of “special edition” versions of games. Once reserved for truly epic games, the special edition videogame has almost entirely lost its lustre over the last half a decade or so, as even mediocre titles are offered with extra tat for an inflated price. Not that I’m suggesting Halo: Reach will be mediocre, but when crap like Clive Barker’s Jericho is getting a “special” edition with its standard release, it’s hard to give a shit any longer. Also:

2. $150, glol . That will very nearly buy you a new Xbox 360 console .
