Gwen Stefani was criticized for toning down her look for her Billboard Music Awards performance with Blake Shelton, but the “Make Me Like You” singer isn’t letting the haters scare her away from occasionally taking a break from her signature red lip and winged eyeliner.

In one of her recent Snapchat photos, Gwen Stefani appears to be completely makeup-free. The Inquisitr previously reported that Gwen and her sons spent part of their Memorial Day weekend at Blake Shelton’s place in Oklahoma, and this is where Gwen and an unidentified female friend seem to be in the picture below.

Earlier this month, Gwen Stefani broke the internet when she posted a similar photo of her bare face on Instagram. Gwen Stefani later told People that the makeup-free selfie was originally meant to be for Blake Shelton’s eyes only, but she liked it so much that she decided to share it with her fans.

“I was laying there, I just got in bed and I was like, ‘Maybe I’ll send a picture to Blake,'” Gwen revealed. “I probably took about 10. That one looked cute and I was like, ‘I’ll just post it.'”

Gwen Stefani’s followers flooded the comments section of the Instagram post with praise for the singer’s natural beauty, but some Billboard Music Awards viewers weren’t so kind when Gwen decided to dramatically tone down her stage look for her duet with Blake Shelton.

As Glamour reports, critics took to social media to criticize Gwen for rocking a nude lip and no eyeliner when she performed “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” with her cowboy beau. Some commenters said that Gwen’s makeup made her look tired and washed out, and she was even compared to a Madame Tussauds wax figure.

A few critics called for Gwen Stefani to fire Gregory Arlt, the makeup artist responsible for the look, but he defended himself by informing the “armchair warriors” that the changes he made to Gwen’s stage look weren’t as drastic as everyone was making them out to be.

“It’s basically what we’ve always been doing, just no upper liner or false lashes (and yes, a pale lip as opposed to a color),” Arlt said, according to People. “You’d think I sent her out with tinted moisturizer and Chapstick from what people were saying!”

Gwen Stefani also rocks a pale lip in a new teaser for her upcoming “Misery” music video. In the short clip that Gwen recently posted on Instagram, she can be seen wearing a floral headpiece that’s seemingly inspired by painter Frida Kahlo. Gwen also rocks a light pink dress that gives off a ballerina vibe.

The full version of the “Misery” video will be released on May 31.

As Us Weekly reports, “Misery ” is one of the many Blake Shelton-inspired songs on Gwen Stefani’s latest album, This Is What the Truth Feels Like. The song isn’t about heartbreak at all, so the title is a bit misleading; the “misery” Gwen sings about is the longing she experiences when she can’t be with her lover. She compares Blake to “drugs” and begs him to come see her.

“Enough, enough of this suffering,” Gwen sings. ” Hurry up, come see me / Put me out of my misery, put me out of my misery.”

Gwen Stefani performed “Misery” live in front of Blake Shelton during the April 19 episode of The Voice, and the “Came Here to Forget” singer had a huge smile on his face the entire time his girlfriend was onstage. He also gave Gwen a standing ovation at the end of her performance.
